More information than you ever wanted to know, I am sure!
I was born in Shirley, MA in the year 1966, but I have no Boston accent
I grew up in the south (NC and GA) but I don’t have that accent either
My parents used to run the county airport in Brunswick County, NC
At that time, it was a grass strip… I used to cut the grass
I graduated from high school in Savannah, GA
I took four years of Army JROTC in high school
I enlisted in the Air Force and attended basic training and technical training at Lackland AFB
Lackland AFB is located in San Antonio, TX and I was there for nearly a year
The year I was there, San Antonio had a massive winter storm, the most snow they’d seen in 100 years… it closed the city DOWN
After I graduated from technical training, I was assigned to Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC
I was a member of the 2012th Communications Squadron
I married my high school sweetheart while stationed there
I spent most of my military career in a command post with no windows
I spent the rest of my enlistment at Seymour Johnson AFB
I left the Air Force with a good conduct discharge and the rank of Sergeant
I got involved with computers while in the Air Force
I was trained to install and repair Zenith computer systems
I moved back to Savannah, GA but couldn’t find a decent job
My wife and I decided to move to Seattle, WA because I had an uncle living there
From 1991 to 1994 I ran a two-line BBS in Seattle called CyberSpace BBS
I had a three computer LAN in my dining room to support this
I used to write a monthly column for a nationally-distributed print magazine called BBS Caller’s Digest
I’ve also had several articles published in Avion magazine
I’d really like to write for publication again someday, but I never get around to it
Both of my kids were born in Seattle
My son is a teen and will be driving soon, if I don’t strangle him first
My daughter is ten
She was excited because she got her ears pierced for her birthday
I’m not excited because she’s one year closer to dating
Four years ago I separated from my wife after 17 years of marriage
We’ve lived apart since then though we’re still legally married
We get along fairly well as friends, but there’s no chance of getting back together
We’ve agreed on the divorce terms but won’t make it official until there’s a need to
I’m apparently a better ex-husband than I am a normal husband
I recently realized that I’m going to be 40 this year, though I don’t feel that old
I haven’t dated since high school and frankly, it’s intimidating
I rode a motorcycle to high school back in Savannah
I stopped riding when I got married
I started riding again in 2005
In late 2005, I had a fairly minor accident that crushed my right ankle
I spent most of October 2005 in Harborview Medical Center
I nearly died in surgery from a saddle embolus (blood clot) that blocked the flow of blood to my lungs
I have a vena cava filter now that is supposed to prevent additional clots from reaching my lungs
My ankle was rebuilt, it was four months before I could put any weight on it
I can walk without use of a cane now, though I still limp a bit
I actually liked physical therapy, I’m not sure why people complain about it
I recently rode my motorcycle again for the first time since the accident
My medical bills topped $100,000 due to the complications but repairing the motorcycle cost less than $500
I went on a multi-day ride down to Fortuna, CA in May 2006
On the way I rode the Pacific Coast Highway
When I’m not recovering from a serious injury or riding my motorcycle, I’m active in community theater
I’m an award-winner actor and director at the community theater level
I won a best supporting actor award for my portrayal of the telephone repairman in a production of Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park
I’ve won a best director award twice and three of my productions have won best show awards
I prefer directing to acting
I once performed stand-up for open mic night at Giggles Comedy Club in Seattle
I’d be willing to do it again
I also like to shoot rifles and pistols in my spare time
I like to think of it as preparation for when the zombies come
I’ve read The Zombie Survival Guide and you should too
When it comes to firearms, I have a fetish for stainless steel
Unfortunately the Glock Model 21 doesn’t come in stainless steel… but it’s a Glock so that’s ok and it’s the only exception
Of my collection of firearms, my favorite is a custom-built Ruger 10/22 target rifle
I’m also an avid photographer
I once had a photo selected by the FAA for a poster campaign but the funding was canceled
I dumped film early on and have shot exclusively digital for years now
I currently use an Olympus E-500 digital SLR
I used to race 1/10th scale radio-controlled cars
I still have them but they’re gathering dust for no good reason
I collect diecast models of military armor and aircraft
Last time I counted I had over 100 of them on display in my home
They mostly sit on books shelves that contain my book collection
I mostly read science fiction and fantasy, though I have good size collections of military fiction and mysteries as well.
David Weber is probably my favorite science fiction author, Terry Pratchett for fantasy.
I also love, love, love Janet Evanovich and her Stephanie Plum novels, but don’t tell anyone ok?
I also have every book that Dean Koontz has written
I may have too many hobbies
The space in my living room that isn’t taken up by books or diecast models contains my computers
I work at home so I have an office here
I sit at a desk that gives me access to four computers at the same time
Two of them are laptops, one of them is an iMac the other one is a high-end desktop PC
My daughter uses the iMac more than I do when she is over
I am a total and undeniable gadget freak
I never leave home without my smartphone, my bluetooth headset and my iPod nano
I had my car rewired so I could plug my iPod into the stereo and power with a single connector
The other gadget I can’t live without is my HD DVR
I don’t really watch much television, but there are a couple of shows I like and I don’t have the discipline to watch them on a schedule
Favorite shows include Heroes, Jericho, Dexter, Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica, Lost and Eureka
I don’t watch any of them regularly though, I just record them on DVR and watch them when I get around to it
I watch more movies than anything else
I use Netflix for most movies but I have a fairly good sized collection too
One of my all time favorite movies is The Hunt for Red October
I have a thing for zombie movies too… but you may have picked up on that already
I also collect vampire movies
Given a choice, I’d rather be a vampire vs a zombie
No, I do not think I am a vampire
Really, my friends would describe me as “Mostly Harmless”
Did I mention my hair is thinning?
I’ve never met a chocolate chip cookie I didn’t like
I’ve learned that whatever I’m dealing with… things will change… and probably get better
I think that’s 101 things but because I refuse to be fettered by the rigor of your rules regarding these things, I’m not going to count and I’m not numbering them
*snicker*
Did you really read all of them?!
